French Ambassador, Mrs Florence Jeanblanc-Risler and German Ambassador, Mr Jens Peter Lutkenherm along with GIZ delegates visited Savan Park SEZ and Savannakhet Dry Port last week and met with managing board members of the site to discuss investment promotion.

The meeting was also attended by Executive Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Daovone Phachanthavong, Governor of Savan Seno Special Economic Zone Authority, Mr Thongsay Sayavongkhamdy, General Manager of Savan Park SEZ,  Mr Tee Chee Seng,Chief Operating Officer of Savan Logistics, Mr Jean Pierre Grzelczyk, and Deputy Director General of Special Economic Zone Promotion and Management Office from Ministry of Planning and Investment, Mr Lerdsombath Ratthaphasawang.

For Savannakhet Dry Port itself, Chief Operating Officer of Savan Logistics, Mr Jean Pierre Grzelczyk explained to the visiting French and German ambassadors that as the first dry port in Laos it was officially designated with the port code LASAV.

Savannakhet Dry Port can operate efficiently with facilities such as a customs office, port management, customs declaration, e-declaration, and bonded warehouses as well as e-locks being placed on containers with real time GPS tracking to enhance security.

Efficient road transport from China to Savannakhet is only three days while only six days to Singapore. Full Container Load (FCL) and Less than Container Load (LCL) services are available in the dry port.

The dry port also features cashless payments for import duty or VAT via the government’s electronic
Smart Tax system with all monies channelled to the respective ministry.

The ambassadors also visited the Celestica, 
Aeroworks and Essilor factories in the zone following 
the meeting. Both ambassadors were impressed by the very clean and air-conditioned working environments and Lao workers’ abilities in controlling all kinds of advanced machinery including robotics.

The ambassadors also visited the Celestica, Aeroworks and Essilor factories in the zone following the meeting. Both ambassadors were impressed by the very clean and air-conditioned working environments and Lao workers’ abilities in controlling all kinds of advanced machinery including robotics.

The visiting delegation was also surprised by the huge amount of finished product that Lao workers were able to produce each year.

With the full establishment of Savan Park SEZ and Savannakhet Dry Port, both ambassadors were confident the zone would be able to attract additional foreign investment.
